As promised in the last issue of the Slots Report, the spotlight for this column shines north of the border. Since the end of the Olympic Games, Canada's men and women hockey players have also basked in the spotlight, relieved to finally put an end to a 50 year hunger for Gold. While the U.S. emerged as a formidable opposition on the rink, they too can 'glow' off the rink with an exchange rate of one US dollar that buys $1.60 Canadian. Now, there's an advantage you can take to the casinos! Following are two interviews with slot players and their Canadian casino experiences. John, from British Columbia and Cheryle from the Detroit area who likes to take that quick trip across the border to play in Windsor, Ontario.GayleM: What type of slots do you play -- basic, progressive or bonus video slots? Cheryle:Basic and Progressive. Sometimes, the occasional video slot. John:Basic. GayleM: What are some of your favorite slots to play in Canada? Cheryle: Red, White & Blue-7's and Silver & Gold. John: Wild Rose and Double Black & White. GayleM: What are your favorite casinos and why? Cheryle: Windsor Casino--cash exchange rate. We have been to both, Windsor Casino and Windsor Racetrack. The Racetrack Clubhouse food is great. Also, Greektown because of the restaurants and wide open aisles. John:I have played two casinos--Hollywood Casino in Prince George and Lake City Casino in Kelowna B.C. Both are close to my home with easy access. GayleM: What was the largest jackpot you won in Canada? Cheryle: $481.00. John: $500.00 on a Double Black and White dollar machine. Gayle: What is the best comp benefit you've received in Canada and where? Cheryle:A $50.00 dinner comp. Windsor. John:No comps in Prince George or Kelowna that I know of. GayleM: Any other comments? Cheryle:We went to Atlantic City and using your tips on slots, I did pretty good. I won $450.00 John:Gayle, keep up the good work, I love the Slot Report. I want to thank Cheryle and John for their assistance in spotlighting Canadian casinos. Gayle's Comments: The majority of the 58 Canadian casinos are close to the American border offering easy access from the U.S. In the negative column, some casinos are not open 24 hours and most do not offer basic nickel slots, but place 5 or 9 line bonus nickels. Some casinos do not offer overnight accommodations, however there are many hotel/motel choices nearby. While Canadian casinos are not as generous with comps or plan as many promotions, they are getting better, especially Casino Windsor, since 9/11 in order to improve the number of American tourists. I suggest you browse on over to http://travel.casino.com and search through the Canada gaming region for a recent Windsor article plus toll-free Canadian casino numbers are available on the main travel web page on the right hand side.
